A group of soldiers from the Warriors Transition unit stationed at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point spent Friday afternoon trout fishing at the Black Rock Fish and Game Club in Cornwall, where the recently stocked waters provided a steady stream of catches.
Club member Rick Walls said that he volunteers with the Warriors unit and they talked about how great it is to get outdoors so he spoke with others at the club and arranged for the visit. The soldiers are on active duty and are recovering from wounds, illness and injuries, according to Megan Calero of the USMA at West Point.
When the soldiers arrived on Friday, the club members had fishing poles lined up along the creek side and within minutes they were reeling the fish in. During April and May the club stocks the stream twice a week with 250 brook and rainbow trout.
After fishing, club chairman Jim McGee prepared a meal for the guests that included grilling what he called “village venison,” some of the meat that was collected by bow hunters who culled the deer population on private property in the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson last year.
Comments:
Kudos to Jim McGee for taking the time out of his busy schedule to share his love of fishing with our wounded warriors. Also, thanks to Senator Larkin for giving Jim the time off to do this event. Not only is he a great cook, but he's cute too!

Not only are we lucky to have Jim (yes, I agree with his wife, he's cute). lk But the Village is lucky to have the Black Rock Fish and Game Club. This bunch of sportsmen and women, conservationists can now add concerned citizens to their list of accolades. Thanks Jim and all of you!
