SKFE #1 Chief Jeff Armitage presents a plaque to outgoing police chief Charles Williams.
Cornwall-on-Hudson police chief Charles Williams received a crystal engraved plaque from Storm King Fire Engine #2 chief Jeff Armitage on Wednesday night to thank him for his service to the community. Williams is set to retire as police chief on September 16 after 21 years of service in the village and town forces.
Armitage made the presentation in front of the fire department’s members and he thanked him for his support through the years. “Anything we asked for, he’s done,” Armitage said, “over the budget, over public safety issues.”
Williams noted that he had served as a volunteer firefighter on Long Island and in Vail’s Gate and that he understands what’ it’s like to be a “vollie.” “It’s all about working together and doing the right thing,” he told the members.
Williams said later that he has already moved into his house on the campus of the New York Military Academy, where he is the newly-appointed deputy commandant of cadets.
