General News: Fromaget Challenges Randazzo for County Seat
|
Robert Fromaget |
A Blooming Grove resident has announced his candidacy for the Orange County Legislature’s 12th District seat. Robert Fromaget, a retired IBM executive, is challenging former Cornwall supervisor Richard Randazzo to be the Democratic candidate for the position. The two will face off in a Democratic primary on September 15th.
Fromaget has the endorsement of the Woodbury and Blooming Grove Democratic party committees and the countywide Working Families Party. The Cornwall Democratic committee and the Orange County Democratic committee have endorsed Randazzo.
Since he retired five years ago, Fromaget says he has closely studied the Orange County budget and believes that legislators need to be more assertive in controlling spending. “The most important thing is we need to have a county controller who is separate from the county executive,” Fromaget said in a phone interview. “The controller can prevent the county from spending more than in the budget.”
Fromaget also is concerned about the County’s proposed changes in controlling water resources, which he detailed in a recent editorial.
The 12th District seat is currently held by Alan Seidman, a Republican who announced earlier this year that he is not seeking another term. Kevin Hines, a Cornwall resident and assistant fire chief in the Cornwall Fire Department, has the Republican Party endorsement in that race.
