Traffic was brought to a crawl on Route 9W south on Tuesday morning when a black bear decided to take his chances and cross the busy roadway.
Neil Kessner was driving to work from his home in Cornwall-on-Hudson around 7:40 a.m. when he saw what he thought was a large rottweiler in the middle of the road on the other northbound side. As he got closer, he noticed it was no rottweiler.
Neil’s wife, Sandi, says that her husband watched as the young bear put his front paws up on the divider, looked around and slowly crawled over it before making his way across the two lanes of traffic and scampering up the hillside.
As he watched, Neil snapped some photos of the bear, which he shares here. You can see cars in the rearview mirror, although Neil reports that some people were very impatient and tried to squeeze by in the right lane, almost hitting the poor bear.
