General News: Public Library Welcomes New Director
|
Karen LaRocca-Fels is the newly-appointed director the Cornwall Public LIbrary. |
The Cornwall Public Library has a new director. Karen LaRocca-Fels joined the library as its director on Monday.
LaRocca-Fels, a resident of Montgomery, has worked at libraries throughout Orange County, from Goshen to Monroe, where she was the head of the reference department. Her most recent position was as assistant director of the Finklestein Memorial Library in Spring Valley, N.Y.
She says that she is delighted to be the director of the Cornwall library because it has a great reputation throughout the area as library that provides great services to the community. “One of the things I am interested in is reaching out to the community,” she said in a phone interview, “ and I will continue that and see what people want from their library.”
LaRocca-Fels will likely draw on her experience at other libraries as well as her current role president of the Public Libraries Association of the New York Library Association. She also comes with a Masters degree in Library Science from SUNY Albany and advanced certificate in Public Library Administration from Long Island University, C.W. Post.
“We are pleased to have Karen join us as director of the library in Cornwall,” said Christine K. McDonald, president of the library’s board of trustees. “The board took their time through a lengthy interviewing process to ensure selection of the right candidate. The trustees and staff look forward to working with Karen throughout the coming months and years.”
