General News: School Board Candidates Wanted
Three seats on the Cornwall Central School District’s Board of Education will be filled in the May 19 election. Two incumbent members, David Carnright and Barbara Manzanari, have announced their intention to run again for their seats.
The third seat is being vacated by Gregory Whalen, who told the board on Monday night that he is stepping down after two terms as a result of his increasing responsibilities at work. “It’s been a great six years,” Whalen said, “and it is a great opportunity for someone else in the community to step forward with new ideas.” Board president Brendan Coyne thanked Whalen for his service and noted that his skills in developing policies were of great help.
Any resident of the Cornwall Central School District who would like to run for a seat on the board may pick up a petition from the school district office or from the website www.cornwall-schools.com.
Only 38 signatures are required for a candidate to get on the ballot. Petitions must be filed by April 20, 2009.
