General News: Forge Hill Bridge Reconstruction
From the Office of County Executive Neuhaus
Recently Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus and other elected officials announced that work will officially begin on the reconstruction project for the Forge Hill Bridge, located in New Windsor. Forge Hill Bridge extends over Moodna Creek and was shuttered in August 2011 as a result of flood damage sustained from Hurricane Irene. The span is critical for commuters attempting to travel from State Route 94 to State Route 9W. In 2010 Forge Hill Bridge served over 2,000 vehicles per day.
Forge Hill Bridge’s reconstruction and extension will transform it from a two-span bridge to a three-span structure. In July 2014 a contract was signed with A. Servidone, Inc., and B. Anthony Construction Corp. for the project to proceed. The funds to repair the damaged bridge come from the following sources: 80 percent federal, 15 state, and 5 percent county. The project is expected to be completed by August 2015.
“Bridges carry local commerce and enhance the safety of the public, and the Forge Hill project will reduce current traffic congestion while increasing economic growth,” said County Executive Neuhaus. “I am pleased to announce the start of the reconstruction project and I look forward to its completion next year.”
“After three long years, the repairs are finally beginning. I want to thank Supervisor Green and County Executive Neuhaus for their perseverance and determination in making this project a priority,” said Senator Bill Larkin. “I also want to thank the local residents who have had to detour around this bridge for the past three years. They deserve a medal for their patience.”
