The race for trustee in the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson just got tighter. Earlier this week Douglas Vatter and Maryann Rose O’Dell picked up petitions for the March 18th election and both say they plan to run.
The candidates will have to gather 75 valid signatures on their petitions by February in order to appear on the ballot. There are two open trustee seats in the election. Incumbent trustee Mark Edsall has announced his intention to run again and Andrew Argenio has also started to campaign for the seat. Current trustee William Fogarty says he will not run again.
From his office in Cornwall-on-Hudson, Douglas Vatter runs an insurance underwriting business that employs 93 people in three states. He also serves as the president of Storm King Fire Engine Company No. 2 (SKFE) and is a 1979 Cornwall High School graduate.
Maryann Rose O’Dell is known to many as the president of the Cornwall Historical Society and as an administrative assistant to New York State Assembly member Nancy Calhoun. Rose O’Dell says that she thinks her administrative experience with the historical society will help preserve the beauty of the village while keeping the finances in check. She also has been a member of the planning board since last June.
