On Saturday, February 9, from 10 a.m. until 2p.m., the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum will be hosting a Geology Fair! Come to the Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center, on Muser Drive, across from 174 Angola Road, Cornwall. New York State has some of the most fascinating geology in all of North America. Join the museum staff for a day of rockin’ fun and facts with the Orange County Mineral Society! “The bedrock that makes up parts of the Hudson Highlands is a form of gneiss and is 1.3 billion years old,” said Judy Onufer, Director of Education. “These are some of the oldest rocks found in all of North America!”
Geology exhibits will include: rocks, minerals and fossils. Enjoy special presentations on Geology and Paleontology. Children can excavate their own rock specimens in the geo-pit or make a fossil casting to take home. Specimens will be available to purchase from the Museum gift shop and from the Orange County Mineral Society. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Admission: $7/Adults, $5/children. Museum Members: $5/Adults, $3/Children. Registration is not required. Snow date: Sunday, February 10. To hear if there is a snow cancellation call 845-534-5506, ext. 204.
