General News: Members Sought for School Budget Cmte.
The Cornwall Central School District board of education invites members of the district to join the School Budget Advisory Committee.
For the last three years, this committee has helped the board understand community concerns regarding the budget and has served as a conduit for sharing information.
Committee members will participate in approximately five meetings to learn about the budget process and provide input to the 2009-10 budget. The district superintendent, Timothy Rehm, assistant superintendent for business, Harvey Sotland, and the assistant superintendent for instruction, Michael Brooks, will make presentations. Board president Brendan Coyne will chair the committee and board members James Congelli and Charles Frank will assist.
If you would like to serve, please contact Jean Hach, board secretary, at 534-8009 x7000 or Coyne at 534-4780.
Comments:
Good luck on getting new advisors. The last time I participated I was completely unimpressed. Brendan -- please instruct the Superintendent to cut back all programs initiated last year and get aggressive on desinging cost cutting programs. Take 20% out of last year's budget - even if it means reducing teaching staff.
By all means do not let the Superintendent and his staff prepare a poor budget and a token "austerity" budget.
Real cuts this time. No full day Kindergarten, 22 students per class. Rethink everything. No status quo -- it doesn't work!
