General News: Input Sought on Quality of Life Issues
The Orange County Citizens Foundation is seeking input from county residents about charts, studies, and statistics they would like researched for publication in an update of the non-profit organization’s popular 2007 Orange County Quality of Life Report.
President Nancy Proyect says that “in light of the economic chaos this year, findings about how our County is faring and tracking trends and changes that have occurred will be invaluable to our citizenry.”
Like its predecessor, the 2009 Report will substantially impact public dialogue while it tracks trends in housing, transportation, health and social well-being, and the three E’s -- economy, education and the environment -- here in Orange County.
Economic development and environmental topics top the list of issues for inclusion in the ’09 Report. Other suggestions should be emailed to [email protected] by January 31, 2009.
The ’07 Report can be viewed on the Citizens Foundation website at www.occitizensfoundation.org.
“Awareness leads to preparedness,” stated Proyect. “Our local town and municipal governments can better respond if they have hard facts to go on. So can our small businesses, banks, educational institutions, hospitals, corporations and non profits. For agencies seeking to affect positive change in our communities, the Quality of Life Report is a valuable assessment tool.”
Working cooperatively, the Citizens Foundation and The Business Institute at SUNY New Paltz will compile research, write and publish the report in 2009. The total cost is estimated at $20,000, and donations to offset the considerable expense are being actively sought by the Citizens Foundation.
