Third place went to Marina Koloeridi's painting. |
An internationally-known artist has chosen prize-winners among the 140 works of art submitted to the World Smallest Stretched Canvas competition at Hudson Valley Gallery in Cornwall-on-Hudson. The paintings measure 1” x 2”.
Awards judge Del-Bourree Bach chose “In Your Eyes” by William Giese, of Brewster, N.Y., for first prize, $500. Giese painting shows a close-up image of an eye and inside the pupil is face of a woman, as if reflected in the eye. Del-Bourree Bach called the work “beautifully rendered, a wonderful concept, a winner.”
Second prize went to Scott T. Balfe, of Earlton, N.Y., whose softly muted landscape called “Sunset on the Water,” was honored for the artist’s “great use of color.”
Marina Koloeridi’s painting entitled “Don’t Leave Loved Ones,” captured third place. Koloeridi, of Marietta, Ga., entered six pieces in the competition.
Sixteen additional paintings were recognized in the competition, which is still on view at the gallery through December 31. Visitors to the show are encouraged to vote for their favorite painting after viewing the show.
