General News: Adoptable Children in Photo Exhibit

Orange County officials announce the opening of the 4th Annual Heart Gallery of the Mid-Hudson, a touching portrait exhibit of children searching for their forever families, this weekend at the Galleria at Crystal Run in Middletown. The exhibit opens at 3 p.m. on Friday, November 14th in the courtyard of Dick’s Sporting Goods store and runs through Sunday, November 16.
Talented photographers have donated their time and expertise to capture the personalities of more than thirty children in the Mid-Hudson who are searching for a “forever home”. Eastman Kodak continues to take part in this effort by providing the processing and printing of the portraits at their own expense.
“If you have been thinking about adoption or foster parenting come and see the children who are waiting and hoping for someone just like you,” County Executive Diana said in a press release.
County social services commissioner David Jolly believes that the children in the photographs long to be part of a family of their own. “Each year thousands of children in New York State are removed from their family of origin as a result of abuse and neglect,” he said, “While the majority of children are eventually returned home, some cannot be safely reunited with their families and become available for adoption.”
The Orange County Department of Social Services is also announcing a new website, AdoptOrangeCountyNY.org , that features Orange County children waiting for adoptive families. The site also provides a wealth of information on the process for becoming a foster or adoptive parent and answers to many questions about taking this life-changing step.
