General News: 9-10 Girls Win Championship
|
The 2008 District 19 Champions |
By Andy Reed
The Cornwall Girls Minor Softball team won the District 19 title on Thursday night in Walden, by beating Montgomery 8 – 6. It was the second time the two teams had met and it was once again a tough game.
The ladies put up three runs in the bottom of the first, but Montgomery came back to score five in the second inning. The scored remained 5 – 3 until the third, when the Dragons added three more runs to take a 6 – 5 lead. One run in each of the next two innings made the score 8 – 6. The ladies once again shutdown the Montgomery offense (which had only played one full game in the tournament) to come away with the victory.
For Cornwall, Colleen Hogan threw a one hitter on the mound, with 12 strikeouts, and had one RBI and scored once. Dani Incantalupo was three for three, with one run scored and three RBIs. Taryn Malone was also three for three. Lauren Pinkham was one for three, but had two RBIs.
The ladies will not play again until July 26th, when they will begin state sectional play against a team from Rockland County.
