General News: NYMA Opens Pool to Cornwall Residents
Cornwall town supervisor Kevin Quigley says that he reached an agreement with the New York Military Academy this morning that will allow Cornwall residents to use the school's swimming pool.
The deal will allow Cornwall residents with pool passes to use the NYMA pool under the eye of lifeguards who have been hired by the town.
On Monday, the town closed the pool after a leak caused it to lose significant amounts of water in just a few days. Recreation department director Jim Kent says the water level had dropped 18 inches in just two days.
At a special meeting of the town of Cornwall board on Monday evening, the town agreed to hire a company to try to detect the leak. That would be the first step to determining the cost of making a repair.
With summer out and children anxious to cool off in the pool this summer, a few dozen people appeared at the town board meeting to express their desire to see the pool re-opened as quickly as possible. Some of the children had made signs, asking the board for a pool.
Cornwall-on-Hudson resident Pamela Small-Hawks, who attended Monday's meeting, said she was pleased with the arrangement, which she noted had been proposed by village resident Colleen Dunning. "It's a beautiful pool," she said, referring to NYMA's outdoor pool. "I'm happy to bring my kids there."
Comments:
Can we research the possibility of a real town pool? My old town had a beautiful pool with chairs that you can sit around the pool on, we paid $375 for a family membership each year and it was well worth it. Maybe NYMA will let us use their pool each year and we can pay them???
