General News: Floating Docks Donated to Village
|
The docks in the water in Poughkeepsie. |
|
New floating docks will soon be arriving at the riverfront. The village of Cornwall-on-Hudson board of trustees voted last week to accept the docks from Vassar College, which no longer needed them.
John Wenz, former chair of the Riverfront Revitalization Committee, learned about the docks and arranged for the donation to the village. The docks are 12 feet wide and a total of 220 feet long.
Wenz and fellow committee member Bob Anderson plan to tow the floating docks from Poughkeepsie down to the village. Wenz says that he hopes to anchor the docks in place temporarily so that people can get a look at them. The dock sections will then be removed by crane and stored for the winter.
Longer-term plans call for it to replace the much smaller dock that is currently in use at the boat launch ramp at Donahue Memorial Park.
In 2007, the village received $85,000 in grants from the state to move ahead with plans to improve access to the Hudson River and to build a low-impact pier head.
Comments:
With all the revenue generated from tickets given to people at the river/money from parking passes I'm surprised we need state grants to spruce up the riverfront.

I am glad they are seriously enforcing the parking sticker law. As a 25 year resident, I have always purchased parking stickers for all of our vehicles so that I could enjoy the river while abiding by the law. For years i shared the river park with countless people who did not purchase parking stickers. If the law is on the books it SHOULD be enforced. I think these docks will be an nice addition down there. Great job in getting them donated!
