General News: Interim Attorney for Village
|
Charles Frankel (on right) |
The Cornwall-on-Hudson board of trustees appointed Charles Frankel's firm as interim attorney Monday evening.
The appointment of Frankel’s firm Rider, Weiner and Frankel, came after the board decided earlier this month not to rehire the firm of attorney Howard Protter, who served the village for 26 years. The board ended that relationship because it was concerned about future conflicts of interest between the village and some of the clients represented by Protter’s firm, Jacobowitz and Gubits.
Protter initially expected to continue as the interim attorney while a search was conducted for a permanent replacement. However, Mayor Gross said that the village did not want to pay the higher fee that Protter planned to charge, an increase from $175 to $250 an hour, which is closer to the customary fee for the firm's services.
