General News: Cop shoots and kills Neighbor
Updated 7/7/20 with victim's name and recent arrest history of victim.
An off-duty Ramapo Police Officer shot and killed his neighbor during a dispute, Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said. The shooting occurred at the home of Robert Fitzgerald at 151 Main Street at around 11pm Monday, July 6, 2020. State Police and Cornwall Town Police are investigating and Hoovler said no charges have been filed pending a grand jury investigation. Fitzgerald is a Police Detective with the Ramapo Police Department. The victim is Eric Gilmore,age 40 of Cornwall. A knife was recovered on the scene. The victim eric Gilmore was last arrested in March and charged with menacing a police officer, resisting arrest and possession of a weapon in the 4th degree. A grand jury will determine if the shooting was justified, and whether any charges are appropriate.
