General News: Cornwall Independence Day Committee News
from the Cornwall Independence Day Committee
June 5, 2016
Keep the flame alive for future generations as Cornwall now tells tales of Cornwall then, in our historic living history pageant--"Courage in Cornwall: Highlights from Our Heritage" --filled with inspiring scenes of Drama! Romance! Adventure! Tragedy and comedy! Showcasing local talent of all kinds among all age groups!
Inspired by Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway hit show, "Hamilton," Cornwall's unique Fourth of July historic pageant tradition (performed each year at 6:30 pm, right after the parade) is being updated to be "Cornwall then, told by Cornwall now." Volunteers of all ages are needed, onstage and off, to help with this amazing transformation--actors, singers, dancers, musicians, assistant directors, choreographers, publicists, production assistants, stage crew, etc.--even if you can only give a few minutes or a few hours. Help tell our story of colonial and revolutionary years, Cornwall’s founding, colonial life, and our region’s contributions to the American Revolution for Independence and Liberty, re-enacting what happened in and around Cornwall to give us a nation, and a reason to celebrate the Fourth of July.
Rehearsal Schedule:
Dress rehearsal (required): Sunday, July 3, on stage at the Town of Cornwall Park near the Ring’s Pond gazebo starting at 6:00 p.m.
Please also come to one or more of three other rehearsals at Munger Cottage from 3:30- 5 pm: Sunday, June 12; Sunday, June 26; Saturday, July 2.
Confirm your attendance by email to [email protected] or call to 845.534.4303.
Please download and bring to every rehearsal your own copy of the draft script, scene list, and cast of characters from www.cornwalljuly4thpageant.org.
The performance is on the pageant stage near the Ring’s Pond gazebo in the Town of Cornwall Park at 6:30 p.m., July 4, giving pageant volunteers time to participate in the 5 p.m. parade and all other festivities.
“This is a marvelous opportunity to be part of a great Cornwall tradition,” said Dr. Dorfman. “The pageant is a living history lesson that explains Cornwall’s role in the birth of our Nation and why we commemorate the Fourth of July, and all are welcome to join in the celebration.”
