General News: Firefighters Rescue Kayakers
05/30/16
Earlier in the evening the Storm King Fire Department responded to Donahue Park to rescue approximately 21 kayakers in distress. The high winds prevented all of the kayakers from reaching the shore safely without assistance. An additional 11 kayakers were able to make it to shore at either Plum Point or Cornwall Landing. The Orange County Hudson River response was activated which brought rescue boats from ls Gate FD, West Point FD, and Fort Montgomery FD. Cornwall EMS, Mobile Life Support Services, Cornwall on Hudson Police and Town of Cornwall Police were also on scene. Fire units were assisted by civilian boats from the Cornwall Yacht Club. No injuries were reported.
