Farmside Acres shipped about 400 Christmas trees Monday in the annual “Trees for Troops” donation drive with the help of the 105th Airlift Wing and fourth-grade students from Lee Road Elementary School in Cornwall.
Trees for Troops provides Real Christmas Trees to armed forces members and their families in the U.S. and stationed overseas. Trees for Troops provides farm-grown Christmas trees to U.S. troops and families at more than 60 military bases in the U.S. and overseas. This year all of the trees collected will go to families at Rock Island Arsenal, an active U.S. Army facility located on the Mississippi River in Illinois.
Farmside Acres has collected donations for the Trees for Troops program since 2009. The number of trees collected has grown from about 125 a few years ago to about 410 this year. The trees were loaded onto three fedex trailers with the help of fourth graders from Lee Road Elementary school.
