General News: Formation Flight on Thursday
Past, present and future of Air Force to make historic flight up Hudson River en route to New York Air Show on Thursday
P-51, F-16 and F-22 will perform formation flight over the Statue of Liberty and World Trade Center en route to New Windsor’s Stewart International Airport
Goshen, N.Y. – The West Side of Manhattan will witness an impressive flyover at 11 a.m. on Thursday when the U.S. Air Force makes a formation flight up the Hudson River.
Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus announced that a formation of a P-51 Mustang, F-16 Viper and F-22 Raptor will fly over the Statue of Liberty and past the World Trade Center en route to the New York Air Show, which is set for August 29-30 at Stewart International Airport in New Windsor.
“The formation will also pass over West Point, before reaching Stewart Airport, which adds even more excitement to this flight,” Neuhaus said. “It will certainly be an impressive sight to see. This is a great way to start off an exciting weekend at the New York Air Show. Anticipation is certainly building for the event.”
In announcing the historic flyover, Neuhaus advised residents to expect increased air traffic activity in Orange County with preparations for the New York Air Show beginning on Thursday.
The New York Air Show will feature demonstrations from four branches of the U.S. Military including the Air Force F-22 Raptor, the Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier and the Navy F-18F Super Hornet. Army’s West Point Parachute Team will jump at the event and New York’s own Air National Guard 106th Rescue Wing will perform a Combat Search and Rescue Demo. Civilian performers include the GEICO Skytypers and former National Aerobatic champion Mike Wiskus in the Lucas Oil Pitts.
