General News: Library Budget up for Vote
from the Cornwall Public Library
Cornwall, NY – On Tuesday, April 21, voters residing in the Cornwall Central School District will have the opportunity to vote on the library's 2015/2016 annual operating budget. Staying within the tax cap, this budget supports the programs and services that the library provides to the community all year long.
Included in the budget are increases for library materials, such as books and DVDs, as well as ebooks and downloadable audiobooks, videos, and music. “We find that, while demand for digital downloadable items continues to increase dramatically, there is still strong demand for books and physical audio‐visual materials,” said Karen LaRocca‐Fels, Library Director.
The budget also includes support for more open hours. “Over the years, community members have asked for longer hours on both weekends and during the week, and the board has made this a priority in this year's budget proposal. We are working on determining which added hours would most benefit the community so that we can provide the best, most responsive service to all,” said Susanne Vondrak, President of the Library Board of Trustees.
Also on April 21, voters will be asked to elect two library trustees. Two positions are open this year – one five‐year term and one three‐year term. The candidates who are running are:
Vishwa Chaudhry of Cornwall‐on‐Hudson
Tom Dames of Cornwall‐on‐Hudson
Susanne Vondrak of Cornwall‐on‐Hudson
“The library board remains committed to maintaining the high quality library service that you have come to expect and this budget reflects that commitment,” said Susanne Vondrak.
