Students at Cornwall Central Middle School recently collected money in honor of Mr. Taylor, a 7th grade social studies teacher who is currently deployed in Afghanistan. The 7th and 8th grade students used the $270 they collected to purchase iTunes gift cards then shipped them over to Afghanistan for soldiers working near Mr. Taylor.
In the daily announcement to all middle schoolers and their parents, it said “We would like Mr. Taylor to come home, see all we’ve done in his honor and feel supported by the Cornwall Community. "
The students that donated, created and signed a poster to be hung in the school showing their support for the troops. Each student that participated signed a red star for the banner. Teacher Marietta Moulton and her co-advisor Janine Lazos cut over 1100 stars for the banner. Moulton said "The student body also wrote letters to the soldiers and we sent the letters to 3 other troops including Mr. Taylor's. There were 2 troops chosen because they have a parent of a CCMS student serving. And we also sent letters to Michael DeRosa, Cornwall graduate and son of one of our teachers. Projects like these are important and simple for our young teens to express their gratitude to our armed forces."
The students will welcome back Mr. Taylor in January with the banner signed by each student who participated in the "Tunes for Taylor" project.
