1. Why are you running for a position as library trustee?
As a former librarian it seems only natural that I would want to get involved with the Cornwall Public Library. I have been impressed with the way it reaches the entire community whether you are in the work force, a retiree, a parent, a student, or a preschooler. There’s something for everyone. Cornwall is a special place and I can see it reflected in the library. I will never forget going to my first “Book Chat & Chocolate” when I moved here. I didn’t know a soul in the town and this discussion group was quick to make me feel right at home. Skip ahead a few years and now when I walk into the children’s area the librarians greet my daughter and son by name. I want to make certain that the Cornwall Public Library continues this user-friendly tradition. Having such an atmosphere ensures that the community will keep coming back to the library
2. Why do you think that you can make a difference in the library's future?
I believe both my professional experience and my role as a frequent patron will make me an asset to the board. I want to help the library move forward in our ever-changing technological environment. I will push to have the library attain the most up to date resources.
Having young children allows me the opportunity to be present at many school and extracurricular activities where parents congregate. I have been in numerous adult conversations where I have said, “You know the library can help you with that.” I have also heard from those who wish the library would make some changes. I will bring this insight to the board in order that these issues get addressed.
3. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I live with my husband Brian and our family in Cornwall. Before moving here in 2005, I had spent my entire life in New York City. I graduated from SUNY Albany and also have a Masters degree in Library
Science from Columbia University.
I worked at the ABC News Research Center for eight years. I then spent fourteen years at the Time Inc. publication Entertainment Weekly. where I ran the Information Center.
I stopped commuting to the city in 2007 to be home with my then newborn. Currently I volunteer around town helping out such programs as Meals-on-Wheels. And as my poster in the library proclaimed, “I geek travel.”
