1. Why are you running for a position as library trustee?
I have always been a strong supporter and advocate for the Cornwall Public Library, as a Friend of the CPL, with donations of books and materials, as well as a frequent customer of the Friends book sales. One of the first things I did when Imoved to the village was to get a library card. I enjoy the many services of the library, from guest speakers and village election forums to borrowing books and dvd's
and e-books for my kindle. I decided to run for a trustee position because I would like to serve the library as a way of giving back to the institution that has been so central to my family's life in Cornwall. I feel my extensive leadership training and experience would be a valuable asset to the library.
2. Why do you think that you can make a difference in the library's future?
With NYS teaching certificates in business and science along with an MBA in organizational behavior and a professional diploma in Education Administration, I have a lot to offer to the public library and, if elected, I will put to use my experience as a teacher and as a professional with numerous organizations. When my children were young, I was very active in the Cornwall School District. I brought the Y-Scoop after school program to the district and helped start Kuds Klub st the Cornwall on Hudson elementary school. I was both the director of Kuds Klub and COHES PTO President for many years, as well as serving on the district leadership and health and wellness committees.
Community-wise, I was a member of the first class of Leadership Orange, an organization devoted to devloping future business and not-for-profit leaders. I have been either a committee member or board member of Orange County United Way, the Hudson-Catskills Labor Council, Hadassah, Temple Beth Jacob, Jewish Family Services and the Cornwall-on-Hudson Ethics Board.
3. Tell us a bit about yourself.
My husband Victor and I moved to Cornwall-on-Hudson from Rockland county in 1983. Both of our children, Benjamin (29) and Samantha (24) were educated in the Cornwall School District and both worked at the CPL as pages all through middle and high school. My husband is a package car driver for UPS, my son is a PhD candidate in history at CUNY and teaches st Hunter College. My daughter teaches in Madrid, Spain and will be a graduate student this fall.
I am a business education teacher at Monroe-Woodbury high school. I have also been an adjunct professor of business at both SUNY Orange and Mount St Mary College. I am currently president of BEAM (Business Educators Association of the Mid-Hudson).
