Obituaries: Shirley Cerone Riley

Mrs. Shirley Cerone Riley of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at home with her loving husband at her side. She was 77.
The daughter of the late Samuel G. and Laura Cerone, she was born December 14, 1934 in Newburgh, NY.
Shirley was married to Thomas J. Riley, Sr. for 53 years. After graduating from Newburgh Free Academy in 1952, she worked as an executive secretary for the Superintendent at USMA at West Point, NY. In later years, she served as the Assistant Protocol Officer for the Academy. She completed her associate's degree at St. Thomas Aquinas College and attended Mount Saint Mary College. She was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh, NY where she married her husband in 1958. Her greatest loves in life were her family and helping those in need.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; daughter, Stacia Downey and her husband, John; sons: Thomas Jr. and wife, Julie, Ernest and wife, Kathleen and Sam and wife, Jennifer; her grandchildren: Anna, Thomas III, John, Sean, Kathryn, Thomas, Patrick, Brenna, Mary, Elizabeth, Connor and Grace. She is also survived by her brothers, Anthony J. Cerone, Samuel G. Cerone, Jr. and wife, Kathryn, several aunts and many nieces nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may call at the Brooks Funeral Home on Tuesday March 13 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 14 at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.
