Judge Joseph L. Thomson of Mountainville, NY, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012, at the age of 77.

Thomson was the retired representative for in-house counsel with Allstate Insurance and was serving his 49th year as Town of Cornwall Justice at the time of his death.

His wife of 50 years, the late Rose Krafft Thomson, passed in 2007. He was born on March 24, 1934, in Cornwall, NY, the son of Thomas Lorbie Thomson and Elizabeth Lahey Thomson.

He is survived by his daughters: Mary Lynn Conklin of Mountainville NY, Barbara Previdi and her husband, Robert, of Philadelphia, PA, and JoAnn Thomson of Mountainville NY; one brother: Thomas Thomson and his wife, Patricia, Coconut Creek, FL.; Grandchildren: Casey and Patrick Conklin and Joseph and William Previdi, along with several nieces and nephews . He was predeceased by two brothers: John Thomson and George Thomson.

Judge Thomson was a graduate of Cornwall High School, the University of Miami, in Coral Gables FL, Tusculum College, in Greenville TN, and Cumberland School of Law, in Lebanon TN, He served as Town Justice for 49 years and was a member of St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, in Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, the NYS Magistrates Association, a Charter Member of Mountainville Engine Co. #3, Highland Engine Co #1, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 2, American Legion Post 1796 – New Windsor, NY, BPOE Elks #247- Newburgh NY, Cornwall Republican Club, Honorary member of Black Rock Fish and Game Club in Mountainville and former member of Cornwall Lions Club.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm on Friday, February 3, 2012 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY 12520.

Contributions may be made to Cornwall Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 151, Cornwall, NY 12518 or Mountainville Engine Co., PO Box 11, Mountainville, NY 10953.

Funeral Service will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. Burial to follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mountainville, NY. Arrangements are by Kevin Quigley of Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY 12520.
