A Cornwall-on-Hudson woman who learned a lot of skills building houses for Habitat for Humanity has added a new experience – event organizer – in an effort to raise money for the group.
Ilene Osinski became a devoted volunteer in the Habitat group as a member of its Women Build team after she first picked up a hammer three years and found community with the other volunteers. “Something about Habitat always called out to me,” Osinski said recently. “You never ever walk away feeling bad. – you may hit your hand with a hammer and that will hurt but your soul always feels better.”
Osinski says that this fall she was moved to organize a fundraising concert and came up with the idea for this Sunday’s concert “Women Performers for Women Build.” It will be held at The Falcon on Route 9W in Marlboro from 4 to 7 pm. (Seats are filling fast, so if you want to reserve one, call Osinski today at (845) 534-5402.
Between 12-15 performers and presenters – including opera singer Amelia G. Watkins, classical guitarist Maria Zemantauski, flute trio Bella Winds, singer Debbie Major, singer/songwriter Lydia Adams Davis, violinist Emily Faxon and pianist Ruthanne Schempf.
Admission is free but there will opportunities to donate and support the work of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh, which has a target of building or restoring 50 homes for needy families in the next five years.
