Cornwall residents may recognize the new Associate Executive Director of Safe Harbors of the Hudson, Inc., Lisa Silverstone. Sliverstone lives in the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson with her husband, Scott, a professor at the U.S Military Academy and two high schoolers, Ian and Nora.
Safe Harbors of the Hudson’s operates a supportive housing residence on Broadway in Newburgh that was the former Hotel Newburgh. Another former village resident, Tricia Haggerty-Wenz, oversaw the transformation of the rundown hotel into renovated studios with a floor of social agencies offering services to the residents.
The arts play an important role in the life of the residents and there is an art gallery, the Ann Street Gallery, on the ground floor, along with artist’s studios. In addition, Safe Harbors is involved in the restoration of the Ritz Theater, which adjoins the residence. Silverstone had a personal role in the arts prior to her appointment as a member of the Ritz Theater Board and as an organizer of the RitzKidz talent show.
Silverstone, formerly Executive Director of the Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands, will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Safe Harbors of the Hudson as well as advocate for federal, state and local projects. She will work closely with Executive Director, Tricia Haggerty Wenz and the Safe Harbors Board of Directors as well as oversee a staff of 18. Along with the Executive Director, Lisa will assist in the fundraising efforts for the organization.
