Obituaries: John H. Hemminger

John H. Hemminger, 81, passed away on December 12, 2011. John was born February 5, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY to John J. and Edna F. (Roesch) Hemminger.

John has been a resident of Cornwall for six years, prior from Milford, PA for 10 years, and prior to that was from New City for 20 years.

He served his country in the United States Army and fought for our country in the Korean War.

John married Ann (McHale) on September 1, 1962 at Holy Family Parish in Fresh Meadows, NY. He was a coach and manager for the Clarkstown Babe Ruth Baseball League from 1983-1993. John was a senior Olympian. He enjoyed gardening and was a member of the American Legion; he was a parishioner of St. Thomas of Canterbury in Cornwall on Hudson, NY and a member of the NY Road Runners. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

John is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ann, of Cornwall; his beloved children: Barbara and her husband, Charles Bilbrey of Owego, NY, Joan and her husband, Carlos Garcia of Cornwall, NY, and John W. and his wife, Aimee of New Paltz, NY; his cherished grandchildren: Brianne and her husband, Brian Smith, Shannon Bilbrey, Patrick Bilbrey, Ashley Garcia, Julia Garcia, and Keaton, Merin, and Aivyn Hemminger, and his sister, Patricia Quigley of Massapequa Park, NY. John is predeceased by his sister, Marion McIntyre and his grandson, Spc. Charles Bilbrey Jr. who served his country proudly and was killed in action in Iraq.

Family may receive friends today, December 14th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 15th, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church, Nanuet, NY, followed by burial at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Nanuet.
