Obituaries: John Phillip "Phil" Hand, Sr.

John Phillip "Phil" Hand, Sr. died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 surrounded by family at St. Lukes Cornwall Hospital. He was 83.

Mr. Hand was a retired bus driver for Dutchess County LOOP. He was the widower of Doris Hand. The son of John T. Hand and Mildred Irving Hand, he was born June 29, 1928.

Survivors include his children: Kenneth and MaryBeth (Beezer) Hand of Mountainville; Gail Vesely and fianc, Kelly Collins of Napanoch; Martin and Mary Hand of Wallkill and John Jr. and Patricia Hand of Highland Mills; sister, Phyllis Sims of Newburgh and brother-in-law, Wynn Couser of Cornwall; loving grandchildren: Shelly Dilello, Lori Chapman, Martin Hand, Amy Maher, Kathleen Hand, Kelley Hand, Thomas Hand, Kelsey Hand, John Hand III and Kenneth Hand; great grandchildren: Tyler Dilello, Madison Chapman, Sean and Genevieve Maher and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Hand Couser and his first wife, Lucille Hand-Monson.

He was a Charter Member of Mountainville Engine Company and past member of Black Rock Fish and Game Club.

A Family Statement reads: Dad was an avid Mets fan and in his younger years enjoyed playing softball and bowling as well as playing cards.

Visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on Monday November 28 at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday November 28 at the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountainville Engine Company or the American Diabetes Association.
