Obituaries: Mary Flannery

Mary Flannery of New Windsor, formerly of Cornwall-on-Hudson, entered into rest on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was 88.

The daughter of the late John and Catherine Monahan, she was born on August 4, 1923 in Newburgh, NY.

Mary was a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court Rita for 65 years. She was retired from the Cornwall Central School District. A member of New Windsor Seniors, she enjoyed line dancing at Munger
Cottage. And she loved to play pinochle with her friends.

Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend and she will be deeply missed.

Survivors include; son Patrick Flannery and wife Dorothy of Harpers Ferry, WV; daughters Colleen McAteer of New Windsor and Susann Huling and husband Norman of Sparkill, NY; five grandchildren; Riley Kim Clark, Patrick David Flannery, Keith McAteer, and Christopher and Katie Huling; one great-grandchild, Alexis Knott. She is also survived by her brother William Russell Monahan of Marlboro, NY; sister Alyce Stelzer of Washington, PA and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Patrick A. Flannery.

The family would like to thank Dr. Shreiner, Dr. Bambino and Dr. Diamond and all of the wonderful staff on the 4th floor at St. Luke’s Hospital.

Visitation was held on Monday, Nov. 21, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Ave. A, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 at 12:00 noon at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Marlboro, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc., 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550 or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
