Obituaries: Barton F. Bryan

Barton F. Bryan, 85, of Inverness, FL, formerly of Cornwall on Hudson, NY, passed August 12, 2011 with his family by his side at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Bart was born July 26, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the son of Mildred and George R. Bryan. He was married April 29, 1950 to Jean McKenzie Bryan who survives at home. He was predeceased by his mother Mildred Waller, his father George Russell Bryan, step father Cleve Waller and brother Gilbert Bryan. Bart is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jean his sons, Bruce and wife Nancy, James and wife Dina, George and wife Brenda and daughter Bonnie Jeseo as well at 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He was a retired Agency Manager with State Farm Insurance Co. and a pioneer within the Northeastern Region. Bart spent his time serving others; he was a great example for his family and friends. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a post commander and 50 year member of the American Legion. He was an Ex-Chief and life member of Storm King Fire Engine Company #2 of Cornwall on Hudson, NY and a charter member of the benevolent association. He also was a life member and past president of Orange County Firemen's Association, a director of the Hudson Valley Firemen's Association and a member of the Red Vests.

Since moving to Florida in 1990, he was a member of, and instructor for, the United State Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 15-4 of Homosassa. The only thing Bart loved more than gaining knowledge was sharing it with others. He was a mentor to many along the way. He loved his time spent on the water while helping others. He will be remembered as a loving husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks that contributions be made to the Firemen's Home, 125 Harry Howard Ave., Hudson, NY 12534 or the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 15-4, 8940 W. Veterans Dr., Homosassa, FL 34448. A funeral service was held on Monday Aug. 15, 2011 at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa. k. Condolences may be offered at www.wilderfuneral.com.
