General News: Sculpture Time & Runway Fashions at Library
July 25, 2011
From the Cornwall Public Library
On Thursday, August 4th at Cornwall Public Library, two spectacular events of the 2011 Summer Reading Program will take place – and the community is invited!
At 6:15 p.m. during Sculpture Time, participants will "Create a New World” from found objects like sticks, stones, buttons, dried beans, pasta, fabric, paper, foil – whatever the creative mind can put to use.
Immediately following Sculpture Time, at 7:00 p.m., members of the International Challenge Reading Club (grades 6+) will model their original Steampunk/Trashion creations during the 2011 Project Runway Fashion Show – outfits and accessories they have been avidly working on all week at the library. Steampunk is a loose term used to describe an extraordinary fashion trend. By remixing styles from the Victorian era, classic Goth, gypsy, and industrial fetish, steampunk fashion creates a unique and beautifully disturbing look. Trashion is a term for art, jewelry and fashion created from used, thrown-out, found and repurposed elements. The term is now widely used in creative circles to describe any wearable item or accessory that is constructed using all or part materials that have been recycled, including clothing that has been thrifted and reconditioned.
So mark your calendars for Thursday, August 4th, beginning at 6:15 p.m. – plan to bring the entire family – and take part in an evening of pure enjoyment at Cornwall Public Library!
