Town of Cornwall part-time police officer George Patsalos became the newest D.A.R.E. officer in town following his graduation from a two-week training program last Friday.
Sergeant Philip Sinagra, who is acting as town police chief, attended the graduation. He told the town board at its meeting on Monday night that he is pleased that Officer Patsalos could fill the position in a program that is well-received by the community.
D.A.R.E., or Drug Abuse Resistance Education, is a national program designed to give kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence. It is taught in 75 percent of the nation's schools.
Former police chief Russell O'Dell served as the last D.A.R.E. officer in the town of Cornwall. O'Dell resigned his post abruptly at the end of 2006, leaving the position vacant.
