General News: OC Arts Council Has New Leader, Seeks Artists

The Orange County Arts Council has a new executive director and a new push to find artists to honor and to include in a studio tour this fall.
Dawn Ansbro, the former director of organizational development for the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts in Sugar Loaf, was hired to head the arts council beginning this month.
Nominations Sough for Arts Awards
Ansbro jumped into action, seeking nominations for the council’s annual art awards. Recipients may include individual artists, arts patrons, volunteers, non-profit cultural organizations, and corporate patrons. Nominations should be based on artistic excellence, sustained contributions, unusual achievement, perseverance, and a deep commitment to the arts and the community.The Awards will be presented at a gala evening event on Thursday, November 10th.
In honor of Veteran’s Day, a special Salute to Veterans Award was created to honor a Veteran who has demonstrated a sincere commitment to the arts through the creation of their own art and/or their involvement with the arts in the general community or within the veteran community.
In addition to the Salute to Veterans Award, the Orange County Arts Council is also looking for one poem or short essay that is in keeping with the Veterans theme
Open Studio Tour Announced
The Orange County Arts Council is looking for artists who want to take part in the Open Studio Tour that will take place on October 22 & 23. The studio tour gives the public an opportunity to see how artists work and to create a dialog between artists and the general public to bring about a broader knowledge of the arts.
This year’s tour will showcase the Southern portion of the county (those artists and studios who work or reside south of Route 84).
