General News: Restaurants Help Raise Funds for Land Trust
June 27, 2011
Next time you are eating out at select area restaurants, the Orange County Land Trust would like you to consider adding $1 to your check for its Buck for Conservation campaign. The campaign will provide funds for the land trust’s open space and farmland protection projects throughout Orange County.
Gus’s Restaurant and Tavern in New Windsor is the latest local restaurant to join the campaign, along with Loughran’s Restaurant and Irish Pub in Salisbury Mills, Catherine’s in Goshen, Cosimo’s Restaurants in Newburgh, Middletown, and Woodbury, John’s Harvest Inn in Middletown, Landmark Inn in Warwick, Nina’s in Middletown, and Taco Hombre in Warwick. Diners at Schlesingers’s Steak House in New Windsor will soon have the opportunity to make a donation through a donation box at the entrance to the restaurant.
“These restaurants believe, as we do, in protecting the quality of life here in Orange County,” said Jim Delaune, executive director of the Orange County Land Trust.”
“Although a dollar may not seem like a lot at first,” said Delaune, “added together our combined dollars can really go a long way in protecting what we all love about living in Orange County- our green countryside and working farms. Our farms contribute so much to our local economy and provide us with fresh, local foods,” he added.
The Orange County Land Trust has helped protect nearly 4,000 acres of land and eleven working farms.
