Obituaries: Vincent Sansevieri

Vincent Sansevieri, a 74-year-old, long-time resident of Cornwall, NY, passed away on Sunday, June 19th, 2011 after a long illness.

He was the son of the late Anselmo, (Sam), and Viola Miller Sansevieri; he was born August 21, 1936 in Newburgh, NY.

He was a proud veteran of the Korean War and served his country with honor receiving the National Defense Service Medal.

Vincent was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St.Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson. He volunteered tirelessly for many years at the Church helping in any way he could, he also ran the Bingo to help the school. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Vincent worked as a laborer most of his life and retired from Miron Lumber Company in Newburgh. He was a loyal member of the Teamsters Union, Local 445. He enjoyed boating on the Hudson River, attending Mass, and playing with his children and many grandchildren. He loved traveling the U.S., Mexico, Caribbean and Europe with his wife, children and grandchildren especially visiting his father's village in Italy. His favorite place on earth was Cornwall, NY.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cleotilde Sansevieri and his brothers, John Sansevieri of Walden and Anthony Sansevieri of Illinois; his sisters: Anna Zaremski of Campbell Hall, Antionette Carlino of Walden and Lucy Cimino of Port Jervis. He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Sansevieri Bewick and her husband, Drew, of Alexandria, Virginia, his daughter Gloria Sansevieri Toombs of New Windsor, his son Vincent A. Sansevieri, and his wife, Lisa, of New Hartford, NY. Vincent was survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren including: Christopher Toombs, Daniel, Ashley and Kristen Sansevieri, Brendan and Jacquelyn Bewick. Vincent was predeceased by his brothers: Joseph, Nicholas, Frank and Dominick Sansevieri; and his sisters: Louise Sansevieri, Filomena (Fanny) Riccio and Mary Peck.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, June 25, at Quigley Brothers Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 26 at St. Thomas of Canterbury, Catholic Church in Cornwall-on-Hudson. Burial will follow.
