General News: Town Denies Building Moratorium Exemption
June 14, 2011
Plans for the expansion of a warehouse off Route 32 in Mountainville face another delay after the Cornwall town board voted on Monday to deny the owner’s request for an exemption to a moratorium on new large-scale building permits. The moratorium, which is scheduled to expire in September, requires an owner to prove that a company would face hardship if not granted an exemption.
In March, owner Zigmond Brach told the board about his plan to expand the 180,000 square foot warehouse on Industry Drive to make room for goods that had been stored in a company warehouse in California that had a fire.
The board decided on Monday that the owners had not proven hardship. The board members also noted that the property, the site of the former Star Expansion plant, has prior issues with environmental contamination, a factor that played into their decision.
