General News: AAU Team Places 2nd in Tournament

The 10th-grade boys Cornwall AAU team finished second of 16 teams in Monroe’s Tom Dowd Tournament by compiling a 4-1 record over the week-end.
In the first game, the Dragons avenged an earlier overtime loss from April by defeating the highly regarded Long Island Lightning 63-47. Louie Cioffi had 17 points, including five three-pointers and Maleek Griffin and Chas Del Bene combined for 26 points.
In the second game, Cornwall defeated South Shore of Northern Westchester by a comfortable 71-32 score. Cioffi had 20 points, Brandon Lupo 13, Connor Staudle and Zach Bouton 10 each, and Austin Stewart 8.
In the third game, Cornwall defeated the Edge (Dutchess County) 58-31. Zach Bouton and Cioffi had 12 each, followed by Drew Thorpe, Maleek Griffin,Brandon Lupo, and Connor Staudle all with eight. Donald Malone also recorded four assists and six rebounds.
In the semi-final game, the team defeated the Edge (Poughkeepsie) 55-51 in overtime. This highly regarded team had upset previously undefeated Mt Vernon. Zach Bouton led the way with 16 points and Connor Staudle, Maleek Griffin, and Louie Cioffi combined for 29 points. Outstanding defensive play by Drew Thorpe and Donald Malone in the final minutes sparked the victory.
The team plays its final tournament this week-end in “The King of the Mountain” Tournament at Siena College. Their season record is 22-6, with 4 championships and a second place finish.
