General News: Library Seeks Public Input on Its Role
June 06, 2011
The Cornwall Public Library is rolling out a series of innovative programs designed to get the public more involved in the institution that serves a vital role in the community.
Take a Survey
Library director Karen Fels and the board of trustees are asking residents to take a survey about the library to let them know what types of services people are looking for at the library. (Take the brief survey here right now.)

“Geek” the Library
What does it mean to “Geek” the library? It means taking your passion and discovering how the resources of the library can help you explore and learn more about what you love to do.
For example, if fly-fishing is your passion, you can use to resources of the library to find out the best fishing spots and tackle to use.
The library also provides tremendous resources for those trying to connect with other organizations. With a struggling economy, more and more people are coming to the library to use computers and online resources in their job hunt. (The Cornwall library has a link for the unemployed on the homepage of its website.)
Geek the Library is the creation of OCLC, a nonprofit library cooperative that designed the campaign to spark community discussions about how public libraries can remain strong.
“We are grateful to the many Cornwall residents who show their support of our library at each year’s budget vote,” said Karen LaRocca-Fels, the Cornwall Library Director. “Part of our responsibility is to make certain that the entire community knows the value of our library, and that we working diligently to have the continued ability to offer the programs and services they need and request.”
