The village of Cornwall-on-Hudson appointed a new Disaster Control Officer at its board meeting on Monday evening, naming Kurt Hahn to replace the outgoing officer, Gary Melrose. Hahn was also appointed as the Emergency Management Director for the town of Cornwall this week. He was sworn into the two offices on Wednesday morning.
Hahn is a professional firefighter/EMT in Montrose, New York, a captain with the Storm King Fire Engine Company #2, an emergency medical technician with COVAC, and operates a private business, Advance Fire and Safety Consultants.
Hahn grew up in the village and has volunteered at the fire station since he was a teenager. His advice column "Ask Kurt," in which he answers questions about disaster preparedness, fire prevention, and emergency response, will debut on this website on Friday, September 15.
Village Residents to Vote on Increase in Firefighter Benefits
At its board meeting on Monday evening, the trustees also approved a proposition that would increase volunteer firefighter's monthy service award from $240 to $480 a month.
