Obituaries: Karen Ann Kane

Karen Ann Kane
Karen Ann Kane
April 21, 2011

Karen Ann Kane, a lifetime resident of Vails Gate, NY, died due to complications of pneumonia on April 15, 2011, at St. Luke's Newburgh Hospital. She was 48 years old and was the sixth child of Henry Kane Sr and Gertrude Tricarico Kane. Miss Kane is predeceased by her parents in March 2009, sister Barbara Jean Kane in 1957 and Brian Thomas Kane in 1961. Karen is survived by her three brothers George H. Kane of Vails Gate, NY, Henry Kane Jr. and his wife Diane Kane of Wallkill, NY, and Kevin Kane (aka Trapper Bull Slangstone) of Vancouver, WA.

Miss Kane attended the AHRC Day Program at Campbell Hall, NY during 2009 and 2010. She also served as a member of the New Windsor American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 1796 for 20 years. She enjoyed the simplest things in life like visiting with family and friends, receiving mail, singing, dancing, playing bingo, shopping, holding babies, listening to the R&B/disco music of the 1970's, riding in a car, holding hands, talking on the phone, watching "All in the Family" and the 'Price is Right". But most recently giving handshakes and hugs were her trademarks. Karen will be most remembered by her bright smile that showered everyone with the love, joy and peace of GOD.

Karen was a miracle baby and despite her disabilities she always tried her best and was just beginning to sprout in several directions. We were very proud of her and were blessed to have her in our lives. Her smile was always heartwarming and she had such a sweet spirit. She will be sorely missed in our hearts but she will be at the side of the Heavenly Father free from all her ailments which gives us great comfort.

The family would like to applaud and give special thanks to all the St. Lukes Nurses and doctors who attended to Karen during her recent hospital stay. Including PCA Leny Varrano who stayed by her side many hours during this difficult time.

Visitation hours were held on Sun April 17, 2011, between 2 pm and 5 pm at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St, Cornwall on Hudson, NY, (845-534-9424). A short visitation and service was held on Monday April 18, 2011.
