Master Sergeant Michael H. Kline US Army (Ret.), who served his country for 30 years in the Army Medical Corps, passed from this life on Thursday, March 17, 2011 after a brief illness. A lifelong Cornwall-on-Hudson resident, he also retired from Cornwall Hospital after 20 years as an Administrator. Mike was the beloved husband of Bernadette Kline who predeceased him one year ago.
Mike was a Veteran of World War II, and served as a paratrooper/combat medic during the Normandy (D-Day) Invasion, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) and Victory/Occupation of Germany. During the Korean Conflict he served as an advisor to the Republic of Korea Medical Service and the NCOIC of the Third Field Hospital (MASH) in the former Republic of Vietnam.
His military decorations include the Silver Star, the Bronze Star for Valor with Oak Leaf cluster, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf clusters along with various campaign medals; also the Senior Combat Medical badge, Paratrooper Wings and Combat Helicopter Crew wings.
Mike was a member of St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, American Legion Post 353, Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 1782, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Knights of Columbus-Our Lady of Fatima. He was also a member of Storm King Golf Club.
“Our Dad dedicated his life completely to God, country and his family. His goal was to be the best husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather he could be. He will be truly missed. We would like to thank Dr. Nicholas Bambino and his staff for their kindness. We are also grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff at V.A. Castle Point for their compassionate care and thoughtfulness towards our Dad.”
Survivors include his daughter Jane Deierlein and husband Jim of Columbia, SC; son Jack Kline and wife Sarah of Newport Beach, CA and son Jim and wife Mary Ann of Cornwall; four grandchildren; Robyn, Amanda, Jason and Sally B. and two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Michael.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 20 from 4 – 7 pm at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Monday, March 21 at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
