Annual Timothy Mumford Memorial Poetry Competition
CORNWALL, NY – Entries are now being accepted for Cornwall Public Library’s 2019 Timothy Mumford Memorial Poetry Competition. Young poets, ages 5-18, are invited and encouraged to participate.
Timothy Mumford was a 1999 graduate of Cornwall High School and a 2003 graduate of New York University’s Gallatin School. Tim studied music and played the piano, guitar, and trumpet. He wrote both poetry and song lyrics and played the featured piano piece during his Gallatin School graduation ceremony at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center. Tim was also the winner of the 1999 Orange County Day poetry contest. Those who knew him describe him as a kind, sensitive, and artistic young man.
A winner will be picked in five different age categories, as well as a best overall poem, by a panel of independent judges. Submissions will be accepted through 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 2. Winners in each of the categories will be announced and awards presented at a ceremony on Sunday, April 25, at 1:30 p.m. via Zoom. Zoom links will be provided for the award ceremony for those who want to watch.
