Presentation on County Water Plan

The Orange County Citizens Foundation and the Orange County Water Authority will co-sponsor a presentation on the draft Orange County Water Master Plan. The program will be held on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 5:30 PM at the offices of the Orange County Citizens Foundation located at the Seligmann Homestead and Studios in Sugar Loaf. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

Following a brief presentation led by representatives of the Water Authority, the public will have an opportunity to ask questions and offer comments.

A strategic plan for water resources was recommended in the 2005 update to the County’s Comprehensive Plan. In 2007, the Citizens Foundation requested that the Water Authority commission a study to outline possible strategies for future water conservation and management. To further the initiative to plan for the future water needs of the County, the Water Authority hired the consulting firm Henningson, Durham & Richardson Architecture and Engineering, P.C. (HDR, Inc.) in 2008 to identify parameters in cooperation with local communities and stakeholders and to conduct the study.

The Orange County Legislature is expected to start the formal review of this Plan as an amendment to the County Comprehensive Plan in March.

To attend the event or for more information, please contact the Orange County Citizens Foundation at 845-469-9459 or by email at [email protected]. The report and accompanying information can be downloaded at http://waterauthority.orangecountygov.com. Hard copies can be requested by contacting Eenika Cruz at 845-615-3868.

The Citizens Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create the environment that improves the lives of Orange County residents. It is located at the Seligmann Homestead and Studios, 23 White Oak Drive in Sugar Loaf.

The OCWA was created to address the long-term water needs of Orange County, New York. The Authority supports local, intermunicipal and regional water planning and projects, and coordinates analysis of County water resources to provide a scientific basis for planning and decision-making. Its programs are focused on water supply, water resource protection, watershed planning, and conservation.
