Habitat for Humanity Bus Tour
CORNWALL, NY – As part of the Cornwall Public Library’s summer reading program, Build a Better World, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh will give an interactive presentation at the library, followed by a bus tour (donated by Leprechaun Tours) on Wednesday, August 16. The presentation will begin at the library at 6:00pm and will explain the mission of Habitat for Humanity and how to get involved. At 6:30pm, the bus will depart the library to give a tour of the neighborhoods Habitat for Humanity has built in Newburgh, and will return to the library at 7:45pm. Taking a Habitat tour is a guaranteed inspiring experience. You will see doors and windows boarded up, peeling paint, the shells of buildings, all right next to or across the street from places where families hold on in hopes that someday they might have a place where the hot water is hot, where the toilet flushes, where the heat comes on when it gets cold and stays on. In short, you will get a glimpse of streets you most likely avoid. Then, you will see what those homes, those streets, can become, because the many success stories Habitat displays along the route all were once in the same condition, or worse. Habitat, which started with a few people in 1999, is on track to complete its 85th home by the end of the year, on its way to accounting for $8 million in property value.
There is limited space for the tour – those interested can register via the online calendar or by calling the library at 845-534-8282. For more information on Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh please visit their website: www.habitatnewburgh.org/.
