Grace Cocks Mastrota, a lifelong resident of Cornwall, died on September 16, 2009, at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, in Newburgh, at the age of 89.
The daughter of the late Benjamin Carlton Cocks, a Quaker, and Ruby May Secor Cocks, she was born on August 16, 1920.
Grace was employed by Stewart Airport working in the parking division until she was 87. For many years prior she worked at the Hotel Thayer, West Point. She was also involed in the politics of Cornwall, having held the position of Town Clerk.
Grace had a wonderful sense of humor and was a talented and gifted person who mastered many crafts. An avid reader, she could breeze through a book in a day. Being a festive person who took pride in her home, she loved to celebrate the holidays and make special recipes for her guests. She was a member of the Cornwall Untied Methodist Church and the Cornwall Garden Club.
Survivors include several devoted friends and several unknown cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Mastrota, the town shoemaker, and her dog, Tedy.
Many thanks to Dr. Cappa for his kindness in caring for Grace along with all the wonderful people in the wound center, who saw her on a regular basis. Thanks also to the members of the Cornwall Ambulance Corps and the Cornwall Town Police.
There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 26, 2009, at the Friends Cemetery on Quaker Avenue in Cornwall at 9:30 a.m. Arrangements by Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.
