Thomas McManus, 76, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, died peacefully at Vassar Bros. Hospital, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., on May 16, 2009. He was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Kinawley, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, the son of the late Patrick and Celia McManus.
Survivors: his wife, Doty, at home; children, Gerard, Sean, and Thomas of Cornwall–on-Hudson, N.Y.; daughter, Jacinta Winters of Wallkill, N.Y.; grandchildren, John, Maggie, and Christopher; brothers, Fr. Jim McManus, of Scotland, Frank McManus, of Northern Ireland, Fr. Sean McManus, of Washington, D.C. and Myles McManus, of London, England; sisters. Mary Kate Ruzicka-Anders, of Northern Ireland and Alice Hare, of Birmingham, AL.; 10 nephews and three nieces.
Family Statement: Thank you for being a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend. You have made us all better people. We are so grateful for the time, love and wisdom you gave us all. We will miss your smiling face and hope-filled approach to life.
The family expresses their deep gratitude to Vassar Bros. Hospital Hospice, staff and volunteers and the Mountain View Nursing Home for its constant care. We are grateful to the priests and Eucharistic ministers of St. Josephs Church, New Paltz, and to Monsignor Farrell and pastor Paul for their pastoral and spiritual care.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. 12520. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 20, at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Cornwall–on-Hudson, N.Y . Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall, N.Y.
